INTERVIEW: John 5

John 5′s resume reads like a who’s who of hard rock and heavy metal frontmen. Having held down jobs with such diverse acts as Marilyn Manson, David Lee Roth, Rob Halford, and now Rob Zombie, John 5 is well versed in the art of playing on other peoples’ records – check out his killer work on Zombie’s latest CD, Hellbilly Deluxe 2, where he adds all sorts of greasy blues-influenced licks to Zombie’s brand of dark rock.

NEWS: I Heart Guitar featured as Total Guitar blog of the week

0

I’m super-psyched that I Heart Guitar is this weeks’ Total Guitar Blog Of The Week! I’ve been reading Total Guitar for years, and to this day I stash my various plectra in my beloved Total Guitar pick tin (see photo above). Their coverage of the latest styles in both playing and guitar design is pretty freaking great (and they don’t skimp on the classics either), and they can always be counted on for very useful and cool freebies – not to mention killer backing tracks for the songs they transcribe, which I always found very handy as a teacher.

CD REVIEW: Paul Gilbert – Fuzz Universe

0

Paul Gilbert’s still a relative newcomer to the instrumental rock game. Sure, Racer X had the occasional vocal-less moment, and his solo albums have included cool tracks like ‘Let The Computer Decide,’ but it wasn’t until Get Out Of My Yard in 2006 that Gilbert released a full album of instrumentals. For a guitar hero who’d been in the public eye for over 20 years, that really shows you what a humble chap our Mr Gilbert is
