NoiseKICK FX Pedal 'Colorsound One-Knob Fuzz Clone' There are nearly 7,500 people who “like” my GearGiveaway365 Facebook Page . People come and they go; some comment and some just click and enter. I love the community, though, and think of the people as my friends. Michael Stettes, one of the page’s regulars, emailed me a few weeks ago to tell me he’s starting a guitar pedal company called NoiseKICK FX. NoiseKICK builds hand-made, hand-painted, reasonably priced, interesting, useful, and “sometimes purposely junked-up” pedals. To kick off the company, Michael, along with his business partner Matt, are giving away a pedal! Just like their Facebook page to be entered to win a Colorsound One-Knob Fuzz clone. Once the page hits 333 fans, a winner will be picked. Good luck to all of you, and congrats Michael!
Guitar World magazine has been around for a long time, and they’ve obviously been taking notes when they’ve asked guitarists “What’s on your pedalboard?” By the looks of their recently-released supplement, “Mass Effect: Top 50 stompbox pedals of all time,” the GW editors had a lot of fun going back into the archives! This list includes no-brainer classics like the Ibanez Tube Screamer, Dunlop Cry Baby, and ProCo Rat; somewhat obscure classics like the Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer, Foxx Tone Machine and A/DA Flanger; and modern boutique pedals, such as the Z.Vex Seek Wah, Fullton OCD, and the Lovetone Meatball. Guitar World has been kind enough to let us embed their article here. In the comments, let us know how many of these you’ve owned, and which you may have let go and would like to get back! Continue reading →

This is a guest post from Ali Mabardi, who writes about peacebuilding at her blog, Critical Peace . If you’re interested in hearing more from Ali, please like her Facebook Page . In a previous post, The Cellist of Sarajevo , I described how one Bosnian man became a symbol of peace and hope in a country devastated by war. He defied the violence, tragedy, and hopelessness surrounding him and transcended his reality with the use of a single instrument, his cello. He also has emphasized a profound, grander concept. Music is powerful. It can elicit latent emotion, enhance an already present emotion, describe feelings you may not know how to articulate, and draw you out of a current time and space into an alternate reality. Just look closely at any musicians’ faces as they play their instruments Continue reading →

I’m working on a fun side project, and I need your opinion on something. What do you think a guitar says about the person who plays it? Do you think you could tell the difference between the person who plays a Tele vs. the person who plays a 7-string Schecter? There are 30 guitars below. I want you to tell me how trustworthy the person who plays it is. 10 is very trustworthy, 1 is not trustworthy at all. Thanks for you help!
The guys at Godlyke have been very good to GearPipe readers by running some great gear giveaways of their own, plus adding products to our exclusive giveaways. They love tone, and they love you people! And to prove this? They’ve sent me a Maxon SM9Pro+ Super Metal distortion pedal to give away. But, as we know, giveaways make one person very happy and leave thousands sad and lonely. Not this time. After the giveaway winner is announced, Godlyke has agreed to let me sell as many Super Metal pedals as you can buy at a significant discount. This is important, so I’m going to restate this in an urgent looking red box.
I’m very excited to announce the launch of our first GearPipe branded product. I’m not talking cyber-stuff here, but a real, physical product that you can hold in your hand: GearPipe guitar picks! Here’s the back story. I used to buy picks for a major guitar manufacturer (who sells a similar looking pick…can you guess?), so I have relationships with many factories. My guitar pick factory was kind enough to let me print a small run of picks with the GearPipe logo, made from the same high-quality celluloid that the other company uses. So, I hope you’ll consider buying some picks. Plus (and there’s always a plus!), for each dozen picks you buy through the end of May, you’ll be entered once to win 100 picks custom printed with your name or band’s logo. Continue reading →

Win this!!! Spring is in full swing here in Colorado! The snow has already melted, filling the rivers with white water, and the baseball season has begun. Not to gloat, but our Colorado Rockies are in first place! And what exactly does this have to do with musical instruments? It just so happens that I have a handful of rare, limited-edition Fender baseballs. Only about a thousand were made, and were used as a Fender promotional product about six years ago. These baseballs are really cool! They’re rocking a red, white, and blue stars theme, with an embossed (not just stamped) Fender logo in red. I have four baseballs that I’m going to give away to members of my email list. Continue reading →
