     Today you will encounter countless opportunities to quit. It might be that a business proposal you hoped would come through will fizzle. You might have an argument with your spouse.      Will you pick up your marbles, go home and declare that the game is unfair? Will you believe that you must just not be meant for success — that you are a loser that can’t get a break?  Or will you decide to persist in your struggle, educate yourself and seek the answers you need?

     It is impossible to succeed without developing the discipline of persistence.  Persistence is the voice that commands you forward when everything inside screams at you to quit. It is the tenacity you need to see a project to the end.  It is the immovable resolve that causes you to follow through. 

     Everyone has desire; few have persistence.  In any given endeavor, much of your competition will be eliminated simply because they did not persist.

     How many people begin an exercise regimen only to abandon it after a few months?  How many people begin to change their diet, learn a foreign language or save some money, only to give up when it becomes difficult?  How many people read a book, apply its principles for a few weeks and slip back into the same old mental ruts? 

     So, how does one develop persistence? 

     First, choose which efforts or actions are worth continuing.  Is there a reward if you persist?  There is no value or virtue in persisting in an action that will only bring harm.  Who would do such a thing, you ask?

     How many people are, at this very moment, in destructive and dangerous relationships simply because they feel if they just wait a little longer, it will get better?  How many people are in dead-end jobs because they believe it’s not right to quit a job?

     After you determine that persisting in an action is worth your effort, decide to continue.  It’s that simple.  When you eliminate the option of quitting, it makes persisting much easier. 

     Easier, but never easy.  Sometimes persistence is a daily decision; sometimes it’s hourly.  But it’s important to remember that persistence is a habit that can be learned.  As you develop the trait of persistence, you will unlearn the tendency to quit and find it natural to continue.

     Deep within you, buried far down in your soul, is an iron will, a piece of steel that you can access anytime you reach deep enough.  It will lend you the strength to persist until you are victorious.  Harden your will.  Strengthen your resolve.  Put one foot in front of the other until you have conquered.

     While it is impossible for everyone to be the best in the world, it is certainly attainable for you to become the best within your circle of influence. In a world of mediocrity, those who choose to rise above the crowd have an advantage over their competition.

     Be seen doing it. It doesn’t matter if you’re the best at what you do if nobody knows about it. In other words, if you have a trumpet, blow it already. I was speaking to a friend of mine who is a writer and learned that he has close to five or six books written. Not only has he not submitted his work to a publisher, he lets very few people even see it. How can you ever shine if you’re hiding your light?

     This is especially difficult for those who suffer from a poor self-esteem. A person with a poor self-esteem avoids exposure because he is afraid of encountering rejection — rejection that will confirm his unworthiness and prove his lack of value.

     Be consistent. Everyone knows that even a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then. But in order to be truly successful, you need to strive to be like an obstetrician and be able to deliver regularly.

     I once heard a singer say that you’re only as good as your worst performance because someone in your audience will judge you on that performance alone. On your worst day, how good are you? Can you deliver when you’re sick, in a bad mood, hungry or tired? To be counted among the achievers of this world, you need to allow yourself no excuses and be able to perform consistently at a quality level no matter what.

     Be bold! Life is short. Take a risk! Why not at least try? It has been said that the greatest risk in life is taking no risks. The man who refuses to invest his money because he’s scared of what the stock market is going to do is risking having nothing to sustain him in his retirement.  The guy who is afraid of rejection and never takes a chance on love is risking winding up a lonely old man.

     It is impossible to live without risk. Why not utilitlize its power instead of being intimidated by it?

     Any successful person you have ever known has implemented the Four Be’s. No, it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, effort, and persistence, but the Four Be’s always triumph.

When someone thinks of the stun guns in the market they think of a hand held item that is used to deliver a high level of electrical shock to a foe. This may have once been the main method of this type of gun, but is no longer the case.

The stun guns that are in the market can be grouped into four base groups. The first is of course the hand held taser that can deliver a shock to those that are foolish enough to assault the person wielding them. These are limited to the reach of the person and can cause problems as the person can suffer feedbacks if the assailant is touching them in other areas. This can prove to be counterproductive if the person is disabled along with the assailant.

The second method of stun guns is the ranged taser. These are usually designed to have a range of three to fifteen feet and will deliver a high level shock to the person that is assaulting the proposed victim. These have been the base standard of self-defense in these types of weapons. They require a low level of training and have little chance of the person suffering a feedback. They typically have a variety of voltage ranges when they are purchased and some have settings for this as well.

The third is common in use with some police forces and military. These are usually referred to as stun batons. They are effective a combination of a police baton and cattle prod. Some have seen these as something excessive and they are usually only used in extreme cases or in countries where police usually dont have access to guns. Some prisons also use these as the standard that the police in such institutions will utilize.

The fourth is one that has shown a high level of success in some police forces and the military. This is effectively an EMP gun. EMP is short for electro magnetic pulse, and this is a weapon that is usually used on vehicles to eliminate high-speed chases. The EMP will send a pulse that will fry all electrical systems in a vehicle and will render it useless. The advantage to this is that the criminal can be detained with little force; the draw back is if the car is stolen. The EMP will literally ruin all the electronics in a car and in most new cars that can effectively ruin the car as well.
